Preventing Colds and Flu with Acupuncture!

The fall season has arrived here in the mountains.  The leaves are turning a golden yellow, and a chill has entered the air.  While this season is a wonderful time to enjoy delicious fall food, apples, cider, pumpkin pie and crisp fall air, it is also a time of year to strengthen your immune system and stay healthy!

A variety of illnesses can arrive with the fall season including colds, flu, sore throats, and coughs and these can be very different for each person.  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine looks at such illnesses on an individual basis.  Immune systems vary in strength from person to person depending on energy, stress, and general constitution.  In Chinese medicine this is known as Wei (pronounced ‘way’) Qi.  Wei Qi acts as the body’s first defense in preventing illness and helping to maintain health.

The seasonal changes, like we are experiencing right now, can weaken the Wei Qi of the body creating an opportunity to catch the common illnesses seen in the fall.  These ailments occur when Wei Qi is weak and it cannot correctly shield the body from outside pathogens.  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine works with the body’s Wei Qi and the other factors of the constitution to rebalance, strengthen and reduce the chances of illness.

Common cold symptoms that Chinese medicine can treat include fever, sweating, shivering, sore throats, cough, and fatigue.   If you have ever noticed sometimes the illness can be cold in temperature, and other times it can be very feverish and hot.  This is where the individual treatments with acupuncture and Chinese medicine are very important and effective.  There are specific Acupuncture points and herbal medicines that are selected for each patient.  Clinical studies on Acupuncture have shown it to be effective at reducing symptoms and even better before any illness occurs!

Four Points Acupuncture would love to work with you to boost your Wei Qi and help you maintain a healthy and active fall.  Call today for an appointment or with any questions at 303-502-7071, and take a peek at the website at www.fourpointsacu.com

One Response to “Preventing Colds and Flu with Acupuncture!”

  1. Well done. Many people cannot get flu shot so this would be good option. For people that do get flu shot good added protection to al the other flu bugs not in flu shot.
